Day 1 Analysis
Score - India - 297/6 in 84.0 overs
Player of the Day - Rahul Dravid
Anil Kumble won the toss and decided that India would bat first on the much talked about Perth track. And the Indian batsman were upto the task as they backed the skipper's decision. Virendra Sehwag got India out to a positive start something they had sorely missed in the first 2 tests. The Perth track failed to live up to all the hype and was no different than the Perth track seen in the last few years. Just as India looked to have made a solid start to the Innings they lost Sehwag and Jaffer in quick succession and the onus was on Dravid- back to his favourite number 3 position and the little master - Sachin Tendulkar
They sure lived up to the expectations and a 139 runs stand meant that India had all the advantage until tea on Day 1. Sachin Tendulkar looked in control from the moment he walked in. There were a few play and misses and credit has to be given the Aussie pacers for bowling some wonderful line and length. Rahul Dravid took his time initially and played some marvelous shots later on.
But then India lost 4 wickets in the final session and the honours of Day 1 were equally shared by both the teams when India could easily had dominated the first day. Most of the wickets were lost to some poor shots. Sachin Tendulkar was once again unlucky - out lbw as Asad Rauf failed to judge the Perth bounce. But a day where a little more caution and India would have had Australia completely under the mat. A glaring change was in the ways Aussies conducted themselves on field. They seemed to be making a conscious effort to look nice and clean on the field - It was kind of funny to see the Aussies in such a avatar - when was the last time you have seen a Aussie bowler apologize to a batsman for a wrong appeal ;)
Anyway Indians would be happy if they could stretch the score somewhere close to 400 tomorrow and then hope that the Indian bowlers adjust to the Perth wicket quickly and pick some quick Aussie wickets

Day 1 Analysis
Score: Australia - 376/7 in 89.0 overs
Player of the Day - MR Benson, SA Bucknor and BNJ Oxenford - The Umpires
Day 1 belonged completely to the umpires. With 4 shocking decisions, Indians were left to wonder at the end of the day of what could have been. Indian bowlers once again surprised everyone as RP Singh reveled in the opportunity of leading the attack in the absence of the injured Zaheer Khan. He and Harbhajan bowled magnificently and reduced Australia to 134 / 6 at one point. And than the umpires stuck. But laong with that due credit has to be given to Brad Hogg who played an almost flawless innings. Coming in at 134 / 6 he epitomized the Aussie spirit of believing in their own abilities and backing themselves even when the chips are down
Brad Hogg was the more attacking partner in the early stages of that crucial Hogg - Symonds partnership. Indians probably relaxed a bit and Hogg took complete advantage of them. Symonds scored a century but he was dismissed clearly twice en route to that century. He made full use of the opportunities provided to him by the umpires - first as he was clearly caught behind off Ishant Sharma and secondly as the third umpire adjudged him not out even when everyone unanimously could see Symond's feet off the ground as Dhoni dislodged the bails of Anil Kumble

Day 2 Analysis
Scores at the end of Day 2:
Australia - 343 all out in 92.4 overs
India - 196 all out in 71.5 overs
Australia - 32/0 in 8 overs
Australia lead by 179 runs with 10 wickets in hand
Player of the Day - Stuart Clark
The Indian batsman completely squandered a perfect opportunity to take control of the match as they were bowled out for 196. Things started going all wrong right from the start of the innings as the opening pair of Dravid and Jaffer choose to adopt a cautious approach against the disciplined bowling of Lee and Johnson. Dravid was particularly defensive as he scored just 5 runs of 66 balls before being dismissed. The Indians were going at the run rate of just over 1 for the first 25 overs or so. Things changed for a while as Sachin Tendulkar came out with a positive frame of mind. Sachin played beautifully attacking all the bowlers and was particularly severe on Brad Hogg. And just as the Tendulkar - Ganguly partnership seemed that they would bail India out of trouble, Schin dragged one onto the stumps. India never really recovered and were bowled out for 196. The star of the day for Austtalia was Stuart Clark as he complete destroyed teh Indian middle order. Bret Lee and Stuart Clark claimed 4 wickets each as Indians handed over a 147 runs lead to Australia. Australia made a steady start to the innings and scored 32 runs till the end of day without losing any wicket. Aussies will be looking forward to pile on the runs on Day 3 and set a gigantic target for India.

Day 1 Analysis
Scores at the end of Day 1: Australia - 337/9 in 90.0 overs
Player of the Day - Anil Kumble
India staged a strong comeback after a solid opening partnership between Hayden and Jaques and ended the day 1 strongly reducing Australia to 337 for 9. Mathew Hayden played beautifully to score a century and as the opening pair piled up the runs it looked as if it was one of those regular Aussie onslaught piling up a huge first Innings score, but it was the captain who led from the front and help India come back strongly in the match. A spinner taking a 5 wicket haul on the opening day of a test match in Australia is a sight rarely seen. He was able supported by Zaheer Khan and Indians had made a start to the series very few might have expected out of them. The bowling has been touted as being the weak point of this Indian side on the tour. But now the bowlers have done their Job. Its up to the batsman now to support this wonderful opportunity being created by the bowlers.

India Vs Australia 1st Test Match Melbourne Live Scores and Commentary
IndianCricketHighlights welcomes you to the coverage of the 1st test match between India and Australia being played at the MCG. To call this series to be a tough one for the Indians would be a understatement. It is going to be a real test. And in series like this you expect to get a good start, because it is virtually impossible to come back once you are down. So Indians must be looking to have a good first test.
But playing before a capacity crowd on boxing day is not for the faint hearted. Australia have a formidable record at the MCG and it will be nothing short of miracle if Indians managed to pull one out here. Its difficult but not impossible. India's best chance would be to win the toss and bat first. India's strength lies in their experienced batting and hence they would be hoping that they would be able to post a decent score and take some pressure of the inexperienced bowling lineup.
Rahul Dravid will be opening the innings so as to accommodate the supremely in-form Yuvraj Singh. Laxman will be batting at 3, which may well turn up to a masterstroke as Laxman's penchant for the Aussies is known to one and all. He is one player who can take the attack right to the Aussie camp. A lot would be expected from the famed batting line-up in what is certainly a last tour of Australia for them. In the bowling department Zaheer and RP Singh would be expected to carry on with the good form they have been showing lately.
So lots to look forward to in the inaugural match of the Border - Gavaskar Series. I will be up early in the morning.. Will you? Well even if you miss any moments of day's play tune into IndianCricketHighlights everyday as we will be uploading video highlights of the entire day's play.

Day 1 Match Highlights
Match Score:
India 365 /5
Day 1 belonged to the two southpaws - Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly! Coming together with the score at 61 for 4, the duo stuck a 300 hundred run partnership taking India to a position on Day One from where the series can not be lost. Yuvraj Singh was a treat to watch as he caressed the field with shots which had magical timing and a slight arrogance. Sourav Ganguly followed up his Kolkatta test with another ton. And even though as Yuvraj got out just before the end of day's play Inida had secured the match and ensured that they ca not lose it from there, thus taking Inida one step closer to a home test series win againgst Pakisatan
