Day 1 Analysis

Score - India - 297/6 in 84.0 overs

Player of the Day - Rahul Dravid

Anil Kumble won the toss and decided that India would bat first on the much talked about Perth track. And the Indian batsman were upto the task as they backed the skipper's decision. Virendra Sehwag got India out to a positive start something they had sorely missed in the first 2 tests. The Perth track failed to live up to all the hype and was no different than the Perth track seen in the last few years. Just as India looked to have made a solid start to the Innings they lost Sehwag and Jaffer in quick succession and the onus was on Dravid- back to his favourite number 3 position and the little master - Sachin Tendulkar

They sure lived up to the expectations and a 139 runs stand meant that India had all the advantage until tea on Day 1. Sachin Tendulkar looked in control from the moment he walked in. There were a few play and misses and credit has to be given the Aussie pacers for bowling some wonderful line and length. Rahul Dravid took his time initially and played some marvelous shots later on.

But then India lost 4 wickets in the final session and the honours of Day 1 were equally shared by both the teams when India could easily had dominated the first day. Most of the wickets were lost to some poor shots. Sachin Tendulkar was once again unlucky - out lbw as Asad Rauf failed to judge the Perth bounce. But a day where a little more caution and India would have had Australia completely under the mat. A glaring change was in the ways Aussies conducted themselves on field. They seemed to be making a conscious effort to look nice and clean on the field - It was kind of funny to see the Aussies in such a avatar - when was the last time you have seen a Aussie bowler apologize to a batsman for a wrong appeal ;)

Anyway Indians would be happy if they could stretch the score somewhere close to 400 tomorrow and then hope that the Indian bowlers adjust to the Perth wicket quickly and pick some quick Aussie wickets
