Day 1 belonged completely to the umpires. With 4 shocking decisions, Indians were left to wonder at the end of the day of what could have been. Indian bowlers once again surprised everyone as RP Singh reveled in the opportunity of leading the attack in the absence of the injured Zaheer Khan. He and Harbhajan bowled magnificently and reduced Australia to 134 / 6 at one point. And than the umpires stuck. But laong with that due credit has to be given to Brad Hogg who played an almost flawless innings. Coming in at 134 / 6 he epitomized the Aussie spirit of believing in their own abilities and backing themselves even when the chips are down

Brad Hogg was the more attacking partner in the early stages of that crucial Hogg - Symonds partnership. Indians probably relaxed a bit and Hogg took complete advantage of them. Symonds scored a century but he was dismissed clearly twice en route to that century. He made full use of the opportunities provided to him by the umpires - first as he was clearly caught behind off Ishant Sharma and secondly as the third umpire adjudged him not out even when everyone unanimously could see Symond's feet off the ground as Dhoni dislodged the bails of Anil Kumble

So India won the series with one match to spare. When was the last time it happened against a quality opponent! Must be very long ago. At least I can't seem to remember it as of now. The bolwlers bowled well right from the start and never really let Pakistan off the hook. Then it was time for a Sachin Tendulkar Special. Missed out on yet another century, but as the man said himself in the presentation ceremony - Does not matter as long as the team wins. Well done India!

India won a home ODI series against Pakistan after 24 years. Sachin Tendulkar completed 18 years of International Cricket. He had played his first match against Pakistan on 15th November 1989. Some match this one!

India Vs Australia Second ODI - Preview

After a wash-out at Bangalore which resulted in only 2.4 overs being bowled in the Indian Innings, things don't seem to be getting much better for the second match at Kochi. Kochi has been receiving some rain for the past few days and the prediction for tomorrow isn't much better. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we at least get a result tomorrow if not a complete 50 over game.

Kochi traditionally has been a batsman's paradise. A vivid memory I have when it comes to Kochi is Herschelle Gibbs and Gary Kirsten tearing apart the Indian bowlers, literally ending young Thiru Kumaran's career. The average first innings score on the ground is 264 runs and even targets in excess of 300 have been chased down. So it should be win the toss and bat first normally. But seeing the threat of rains it would be interesting to see what the captains do.. Most captains like to chase down targets in rain-affected matches.. Also this ground holds a special memory for Sachin Tendulkar as both of his five-wicket hauls in ODIs have been at this ground -once against Australia in 98, the year in which he could literally do nothing wrong and one more time against Pakistan in 2005.

I am sure India must have forgotten the Twenty20 success by now and be right back to ground after the scare they got in the last match. They must be eager to prove that the success they had last week was not a flash in the pan. Aussies meanwhile I am sure must be eager to get one back after the semi-final defeat at Twenty20 World Cup and their confidence must be high after the last match. As far as team news goes, Ganguly will sit out tomorrow after the hamstring injury he sustained in the first ODI. That should provide either Dinesh Karthik or Rohit Sharma a chance to play.. Ponting is almost certain to play tomorrow's match.

All in all should be a fast-scoring exciting match. Lets hope the rain-gods decide to stay away tommorow...
